A dedicated team from VHS, along with 4 faculty members and 40 enthusiastic students from the Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Institute of Optometry, made a special educational visit to the Braille Section of Anna Centenary Library, Chennai.
During their visit, our team had the opportunity to showcase the wide range of services and facilities available for visually impaired readers, with a special focus on assistive technology. Devices such as the Orbit Reader and Kibo were introduced, demonstrating how technology empowers independent reading and learning for the visually challenged.
The group was also briefed on the regular support services provided in the Braille section, including:
- Assistance in applying for government jobs
- Audio file sharing services
- Circulation of daily newspaper content in accessible formats
The visitors showed great interest, actively engaging with the technologies and services demonstrated. Their enthusiasm reflected a deep commitment to inclusive learning and understanding the needs of the visually impaired community.
In addition to the Braille Section, the group explored other key areas of the library including the Children’s Section, Medical Section, and the Manuscript Library, making the visit both informative and inspiring.
This special interaction served as a meaningful exchange of knowledge and experience, reinforcing Anna Centenary Library’s mission to create an inclusive and accessible knowledge space for all.
