Bridging Barriers: Kancheepuram Govt. School for the Deaf and Dumb Visits ACL Braille Section

On March 13, 2026, the Braille Section of the Anna Centenary Library had the distinct pleasure of hosting a vibrant group of visitors from the Government School for the Deaf and Dumb, Kancheepuram.

The visiting delegation included 23 enthusiastic students accompanied by 10 dedicated teaching and non-teaching staff members.

A Journey into the World of Braille

While these students face challenges related to hearing and speech, their curiosity to understand the world of the visually impaired was truly inspiring. Our specialized library staff conducted an interactive session, focusing on:

• The Mechanics of Braille: An introduction to how Braille books are written using slates and styluses, as well as modern Braille embossers.
• Reading by Touch: Demonstrating the tactile reading process and how visually impaired individuals navigate literature.
• Inclusive Services: A walkthrough of the various specialized resources and assistive technologies provided by the Anna Centenary Library to empower visually impaired users.

A Heartwarming Exchange

• The students were highly engaged, observing every detail with keen interest. It was a joy to see them absorb information about an alternative way of communication, proving that the desire to learn transcends all barriers.
• We thank the staff of the Kancheepuram Government School for choosing to visit us and for fostering a spirit of empathy and inclusivity in their students.

மாற்றுத்திறனாளிகளுக்கான சேவைகளை எளிதாக்க புதிய இணையதளம் உருவாக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது

தமிழ்நாடு அரசு, மாற்றுத்திறனாளிகள் நலத்துறையின் கீழ் புதிய மைல்கல்லாக, சேவைகளை டிஜிட்டல் முறையில் எளிதாக்க "சமூக பாதுகாப்பு வழங்கல் அமைப்பு" (Social Protection Delivery System - SPDS) என்ற புதிய ஒருங்கிணைந்த இணையதளத்தின் முதல் பதிப்பை அறிமுகப்படுத்தியுள்ளது.

இந்தத் திட்டம் குறித்த முக்கியத் தகவல்கள் பின்வருமாறு:

தமிழ்நாடு முழுவதும் உள்ள மாற்றுத்திறனாளிகளுக்கான மறுவாழ்வு சேவைகள் மற்றும் நலத் திட்டங்களை திறம்பட நிர்வகிக்கவும், கண்காணிக்கவும் இந்த இணையதளம் உருவாக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

ஒருங்கிணைந்த சேவை மையங்களின் செயல்பாடுகளை ஒரே இடத்தில் மேலாண்மை செய்ய இது வழிவகை செய்கிறது.

அறிமுகம்: இந்த இணையதளத்தின் முதல் பதிப்பை மாற்றுத்திறனாளிகள் நலத்துறை அதிகாரப்பூர்வமாக வெளியிட்டுள்ளது.

பார்வைத் திறன் குறைந்தோருக்கான கூடுதல் குறிப்பு:

இந்த இணையதளம் மற்றும் செயலி வடிவமைப்பானது "உள்ளடக்கம், அணுகல் மற்றும் வாய்ப்புகள்" (Inclusion, Accessibility and Opportunities) என்ற கொள்கையின் அடிப்படையில் உருவாக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இது பார்வைத் திறன் குறைந்தோரும் திரைப் படிப்பான் (Screen Reader) போன்ற தொழில்நுட்பங்கள் மூலம் எளிதாகப் பயன்படுத்தும் வகையில் அமையும் என எதிர்பார்க்கப்படுகிறது.

அண்ணா நூற்றாண்டு நூலகத்தில் புதிய பிரெய்லி நூல்கள் அறிமுகம்! ஒரு நெகிழ்ச்சியான முன்னெடுப்பு!

சிறார் இலக்கிய உலகில் தனித்துவம் மிக்க எழுத்தாளர் விழியன் அவர்கள் எழுதிய மூன்று முக்கிய நூல்கள் தற்போது பிரெய்லி எழுத்து வடிவில் மொழியாக்கம் செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளன. அவை:

1. சகி வளர்த்த ஓகி
2. கடல்ல்ல்ல்ல் (காட்டு நண்பர்களின் கடல் நோக்கிய பயணம்)
3. பென்சில்களின் அட்டகாசம்

பார்வை மாற்றுத்திறனாளிகளும் இந்தக் கதைகளை வாசித்து மகிழும் பொருட்டு, சென்னையின் NIEPVD-RC மையத்தில் உதவிப் பேராசிரியராகப் பணியாற்றும் முனைவர் மு.ரேவதி அவர்கள் இவற்றை பிரெய்லி வடிவில் தயாரித்துள்ளார். 

கடந்த 31.01.2026 (சனிக்கிழமை) அன்று, சென்னை கோட்டூர்புரத்தில் உள்ள அண்ணா நூற்றாண்டு நூலகத்திற்கு வருகை தந்த அவர், அங்குள்ள பிரெய்லி பிரிவில் வாசகர்கள் பயன்படுத்தும் வகையில் இந்த நூல்களை வழங்கினார். நூலகத்தின் தலைமை நூலகர் மற்றும் தகவல் அலுவலர் முனைவர் எஸ். காமாட்சி அவர்கள் இந்த நூல்களைப் பெற்றுக்கொண்டார்.

இந்த முயற்சி, மாற்றுத்திறனாளி சிறார்களின் வாசிப்புத் திறனை ஊக்குவிப்பதோடு, இலக்கியங்கள் அனைவரையும் சென்றடைய வேண்டும் என்ற உயரிய நோக்கத்திற்கு ஒரு சிறந்த உதாரணமாக அமைந்துள்ளது.

Learning Beyond Classrooms: Government Higher Secondary School, Vayalur Students Visit the Braille Section @ Anna Centenary Library

Students and staff from Government Higher Secondary School, Vayalur visited the Braille Section of Anna Centenary Library on 7th February 2025. A total of 38 students and 8 staff members actively participated in this educational and awareness-oriented visit.

During the interaction, the students were introduced to the various specialized services provided for visually impaired users, including:

• Access to audio books and audio learning materials
• Assistance for submitting Government job applications
• Volunteer support services
• Scribe (reader–writer) services for examinations and official needs

The session helped students understand how libraries play a vital role in empowering persons with visual disabilities through inclusive information services. The students showed great enthusiasm and curiosity while learning about Braille resources, assistive technologies, and support systems available at the library.

The visit was both informative and inspiring, leaving the students motivated and appreciative of inclusive library services that promote equal access to knowledge.

உலக பிரைய்லி தின நிகழ்வு 2026: விழியின்றி வெல்லலாம் - தன்னம்பிக்கை பயணத்தில் அண்ணா நூற்றாண்டு நூலகத்தின் சிறப்பு முன்னெடுப்பு

உலக பிரைய்லி தினத்தை முன்னிட்டு, சென்னை அண்ணா நூற்றாண்டு நூலகத்தின் பார்வை மாற்றுத்திறனாளிகள் பிரிவில் 03.01.2026 அன்று "நம்பிக்கைதான் நமது பார்வை” என்ற தலைப்பில் சிறப்பான விழிப்புணர்வு நிகழ்வு நடைபெற்றது.

இந்த நிகழ்வில் 30-க்கும் மேற்பட்ட பார்வை மாற்றுத்திறனாளி வாசகர்கள் மற்றும் ஆர்வலர்கள் கலந்துகொண்டனர். சிறப்பு விருந்தினர் திருமிகு. K. நவரசன் அவர்கள் உரையாற்றுகையில் பின்வரும் முக்கியமான கருத்துக்களைப் பகிர்ந்து கொண்டார்:

1.வெற்றிக்கு அடிப்படை நம்பிக்கை: வாழ்க்கைப் பயணத்தில் பல சவால்களும் தடைகளும் வரலாம். ஆனால், ஒருவரிடம் தளராத தன்னம்பிக்கை மட்டும் இருந்தால், எந்த ஒரு சிகரத்தையும் எளிதாக எட்டிவிடலாம்.

2.ஊன்றுகோல் - நமது உற்ற நண்பன்: பார்வை மாற்றுத்திறனாளிகள் வெளியே செல்லும் பொழுது கண்டிப்பாகத் தங்களது 'ஸ்டிக்கை' (ஊன்றுகோல்) உடன் எடுத்துச் செல்ல வேண்டும். இது வெறும் கருவியல்ல, நமது நம்பிக்கையின் அடையாளம்.

3.பாதுகாப்பு: நாம் செல்லும் பாதையில் உள்ள பள்ளங்கள், மேடுகள் மற்றும் தடைகளை முன்கூட்டியே உணர்த்தி, விபத்துகளிலிருந்து நம்மைக் காக்கும் உண்மையான நண்பனாக இந்த ஊன்றுகோல் திகழ்கிறது.

பங்கேற்ற வாசகர்கள் அனைவருக்கும் மிகுந்த உத்வேகத்தையும் பயனுள்ள தகவல்களையும் அளிப்பதாக இந்த நிகழ்ச்சி அமைந்தது.

On the occasion of World Braille Day, a special awareness programme titled “Hope Is Our Vision” was organized on 3rd January 2026 at the Visually Impaired Section of Anna Centenary Library, Chennai. The programme featured a special address by Mr. K. Navarasan.

More than 30 readers and persons with visual impairment actively participated and benefited from the session.In his speech, he emphasized that no matter how many obstacles we face in life, strong hope gives us the power to overcome everything. He also highlighted the importance of the white cane (walking stick) as a true companion of confidence for persons with visual impairment. He advised that it should always be carried while travelling, as it acts like a trusted friend by helping to detect obstacles along the path.

Overall, the programme was highly informative, motivating, and meaningful for all the participants.

      உலக பிரைய்லி தினத்தை முன்னிட்டு, சென்னை அண்ணா நூற்றாண்டு நூலகத்தின் பார்வை மாற்றுத்திறனாளிகள் பிரிவில்  சிறப்புரை நடைபெற உள்ளது.

  பார்வை என்பது கண்களால் பார்ப்பது மட்டுமல்ல, அது மனதின் நம்பிக்கையிலும் உள்ளது என்பதை உணர்த்தும் வகையில், "நம்பிக்கைதான் நமது பார்வை" என்ற தலைப்பில் திருமிகு. K. நவரசன் அவர்கள் சிறப்புரையாற்றுகிறார்.

பார்வையற்றோருக்கான முதல் டி20 உலகக்கோப்பை கிரிக்கெட் தொடரில் அபார ஆட்டத்தைக் காட்டி நேபாள அணியை வீழ்த்தி இந்திய மகளிர் அணி சாம்பியன் பட்டத்தை வென்றுள்ளது.

முழு தொடரிலும் தோல்வியையே சந்திக்காத அதிரடியான அணியாக திகழ்ந்த இந்தியா — ஆஸ்திரேலியா, பாகிஸ்தான், இலங்கை, அமெரிக்கா உள்ளிட்ட அணிகளை வீழ்த்தி வரலாற்றுச் சாதனையை செய்துள்ளது.

Awareness for Learning Disabilities – Special Exhibition & Fun Games at Anna Centenary Library by Braille Section and The Open School

As part of Learning Disabilities Awareness Month – October 2025, the Braille Section of Anna Centenary Library, in collaboration with The Open School for the Children with Specific Learning Difficulties, hosted a vibrant awareness exhibition and community fun games on 12.10.2025 at 3:00 PM during the ACL Expresso event. The celebration was filled with participation, smiles, and enthusiasm – here’s a photo collection capturing those special moments.

சைகை மொழிகள் சர்வதேச நாள் – “Hands Speak, Hearts Connect” சிறப்புரையாடல் சென்னை அண்ணா நூற்றாண்டு நூலகத்தில் நடைபெற்றது.

இன்று (23-09-2025) சைகை மொழிகளுக்கான சர்வதேச நாளை முன்னிட்டு, சென்னை அண்ணா நூற்றாண்டு நூலகத்தின் பிரெய்லி பிரிவில் “Hands Speak, Hearts Connect” என்ற தலைப்பில் சிறப்புரையாடல் நடைபெற்றது. இந்த நிகழ்வில் திருமதி ஜெயந்தி நாராயணன் (முதல்வர், தி கிளார்க் சிறப்புப் பள்ளி, சென்னை) அவர்கள் சிறப்புரையாற்றினார். 30-க்கும் மேற்பட்ட வாசகர்கள் மற்றும் பார்வை மாற்றுத்திறனாளிகள் பங்கேற்றனர். இந்திய சைகை மொழி மற்றும் அமெரிக்க சைகை மொழி குறித்து விரிவாக விளக்கி, வாசகர்கள் எழுப்பிய கேள்விகளுக்கு எளிதில் புரியும் வகையில் பதிலளித்தார். அனைவருக்கும் பயனளித்த அருமையான நிகழ்வாக அமைந்தது.
